Charity ride - The Magic Ride (2024)

13 Feb by Andrew Walsh

Someone I know is an organiser of the Magic Ride. Some details here for those who may be interested in a charity ride.

Feel the Magic is an Australian charity providing grief education programs for kids aged 7 to 18, who experience the death of a parent, guardian, or sibling. It was founded in 2013.

Sadly, 1 in every 20 Aussie children will experience the death of a parent before they turn 18 years old. To put this into perspective, there is most likely a child grieving the loss of a parent in every classroom in every Australian school. In addition to this, children also experience sibling and legal guardian loss. Research shows that childhood bereavement causes disruptions in relational, academic, and occupational functioning later in life, and is associated with greater risk of maladaptive coping, mental health disorders, substance abuse, suicide, and early mortality.

The ride

The 2024 Magic Ride (starts 30 May in the Hunter Valley) website is now live, and is now actively recruiting riders. If you or any friends are interested, details are here Magic Ride 2024 . The sample routes that are there are the route we took in 2022. The 2024 draft routes should be live soon as they are just being finalised.

The organisers are also running a fundraiser on Thursday 29 Feb at Batch Brewery in Marrickville that you may also be interested in. Guests include Daryl Impey. Details are here – Magic Ride – A Night with Mike & friends (raisely.com)

About FTM

Feel the Magic (FTM), helps grieving kids face, feel and heal in their grief. Children and teenagers who have experienced the death of someone they love often feel isolated and alone. They require ongoing support in developing strategies to cope with and move forward with their lives. FTM supports the mental health of bereaved kids and families by providing free camps, resources and strategies to live healthily with their grief. FTM measure the impact of their programs which has resulted in kids experiencing positive indicators across a range of well-being scales including their own reported reduction in feeling overwhelmed when things are difficult.

In aiming to reduce the associated mental health impacts of childhood bereavement, FTM:
